UHR Annual Conference 2023

9-11 May
Virtual

The UHR Conference 2023 took place from 9 to 11 May

Conference 2023 had the theme 'Working Well'. It was a virtual event that took place on the Hopin platform, and via Team Tickets, every colleague in every UHR member university was invited to attend. Great sessions from headline speakers, and specialist sessions from a wide range of providers and peers in other universities meant that #UHR23 was an amazing source of CPD for everyone working in Higher Education HR. Thanks to everyone that joined us.

Even now that conference is over you are very welcome to download the full conference brochure for all the information about this year's event.

Recordings of sessions and slides (when available) are now available for delegates to view. UHR members that did not attend conference will have access to these resources from 1 August.

Working well

Our institutions, our systems, ourselves. Working well? In so many ways the answer must be ‘Yes’. As individuals we hold down challenging roles that need careful thought, hard work and detailed knowledge. Our vital HR systems manage everything from pay and tax, to recruitment and onboarding, and the furthering of equity and inclusion within highly complex organisations. As universities, whether we were founded in this century or in medieval times we work well to provide the best possible education for the coming generation, and research that takes human understanding forward every single year. Our sector is a source of considerable soft power for the UK, and we influence widely and at the topmost level. Our universities contribute to national success – in arts and sciences, in politics and economics, indeed in every human sphere.

What does ‘working well’ mean in this era? To be aware of our own wellbeing, to manage ourselves and our energies in ways that are sustainable? To support our colleagues in maintaining a good work/life balance? To work well with partners, and to collaborate across the whole institutional ecosystem and beyond? To foster inclusive environments where the talents of the whole team can thrive and where we can all find our space to contribute fully? To be flexible about how and where we work, and to adapt as technology brings opportunities that didn’t exist before? At #UHR23, ‘Working Well’, we’ll be looking at all of this and more. Join us online from 9 to 11 May 2023. As always we’ll be joined by great speakers, we’ll meet and share knowledge with colleagues from across the country, and via the UHR Awards, we’ll celebrate successes and learn together.
